what defines status epilepticus?
> 5 mins of continous seizures or multiple seizures without full recovery of consciousness
Generalised COnvulsive Status Epilepticus (GCSE) is characterised by what?
generalised tonic-clonic mvmts with altered conscious state
what can midaz effect?
BP, CS, Ventilations and airway tone
what management is required for seizure activity that has ceased?
- monitor airway and ventilation, cs and BP
- If subtle SE suspected consider TCG and consult midaz
- consider treat and refer
What do you do for Generalised COnvulsive SE?
- manage airway and ventilation as required
- if airway patent, administer high flow O2
- Midaz 10mg IM
(5mg if frail)
Repeat once @ 5 mins if required
what do you do if the patient is unresponsive after 10 mins?
if pt has had full dose and not frail repeat 10mg IM Midaz once.
-> consult for more doses
what is the paediatric management of GSCE?
- manage airway
- Midaz IM
- > medium child (5-11) 2.5-5mg IM
- > small child (1-4) = midaz 2.5mg IM
- > Small & Large infant (<12 mths) = Midaz 1 mg IM
- > newborn = Midaz 0.5mg IM
Repeat once after 10 mins without resolutions
