Shorter treatment with Hypertension, avoid painful technique, extreme hydro, don’t stimulate or elevate limbs
Cerebral Palsy
Avoid vigorous techniques
Torticollis
Don’t stretch spasm
Headaches
Caution with deep on-site work during headache
Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Deep work, Over stretching muscle, Long treatment
COPD’s
Don’t overstimulate
Compartment Syndrome
No frictions with inflammation
Plantar Fascitis
No frictions with bone spurs or with corticosteroids and anti-inflammatory medications
Multiple Sclerosis
Avoid deep painful techniques, extreme hydro and modify pressure with sensory loss
Common Fibular Nerve Lesion
Avoid disrupting the healing process, don’t traction until regeneration past lesion site
Scoliosis
Heat over metal rods, stretch on convex side
DDD
Early- Avoid ranges that aggravate joint
Late- Don’t remove protective spasm
Constipation
No heat on abdomen with hypertension or cardiovascular problems
Women’s Health Conditions
Dysmenorrhea, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Endometriosis
No heat over inflamed, painful abdomen, no extreme hydro, no abdominal work while client is on period
Pregnancy
No Abdomen work or Sacral vibes, no deep work on L/S Pelvis
Ankylosing Spondylitis
Don’t eliminate protective spasm supporting joint, All ROM testing
Rib Subluxation and Intercostal Neuralgia
Local massage over trigger zones, rib springing-mm spasm or joint pathologies are present
Hyperlordosis
Avoid mobilizing hypermobile joints
Nerve Lesions
Median and Ulnar
Avoid disrupting the healing process, don’t traction until regeneration past lesion site
DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis
No frictions with CNS, Fibromyalgia, RA, Osteoporosis, Diabetes, No Heat with Hypertension, RA, Ankylosing Spondylitis
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Deep direct fascial, painful techniques, caution with stretch, mobilizing hypermobile joints
Dupuytren’s Contracture
Slow stretch tp prevent rebound spasm, if surgically repaired incision must be completely healed before treatment
Patellofemoral Syndrome
Full flexion
Tendonitis
Caution with ice over bone
Frozen Shoulder
Frictions with anti-inflammatory’s
Piriformis Syndrome
Avoid compressing sciatic nerve
ITB Friction Syndrome
Frictions with anti-inflammatory med’s
SI Joint Dysfunction
Don’t mobilize hypermobile joint

Spinal traction if pain increases

Don’t remove protective spasm

No stretch until strength returned
TMJ Dysfunction
Deep work over styloid process of temporal bone
TOS
Don’t use Heat on neck, anterior chest with hypertension
Trigeminal Neuralgia
Local massage over trigger zone
Bell’s Palsy
Long dragging stroke on affected
Chronic Congestive Heart Failure
Prone or left side lying, avoid forced expiration, avoid techniques that increase venous return, caution with carotid artery, no bilateral work on anterior neck, check BP with treatment
Cancer
Highly metastatic cancers, oils before chemo or radiation, Treatment until 3 days after radiation therapy
AID’s
Don’t treat if you have a contagious illness, no vigorous or stimulating technique, 30 minute treatment
Diabetes/Hypertension
Diabetics should snack before treatment, no tapotement, MTP, frictions, MM strip, caution with carotid artery, don’t elevate legs, no hydro, no full body MLD
Raynauds
Treatment to extremities during an attack, extreme hydro, deep work with antispasmodic meds
Buerger’s Disease
Treatment, hydro and REMEX if trophic skin changes or loss of sensation, if thrombus present, no local or distal technique, vigorous proximal work, drainage locally or distally
Varicosities
On site work, treatment on affected limb if client has DVT, heat on varicosities
