Vasectomy disadvantages
Men think it will interfere with sexual function, think that it’s a woman’s responsibility to use BC, they might regret it later, BUM needed until sperm is gone, female may still need contraception if she has other partner(s) or if STI protection is needed, no cancer protection, short-term operative discomfort
Female sterilization
Laparoscopic sterilization, ligation or excision
Female sterilization advantages
Enhanced sexual enjoyment without pregnancy worry, decreased ovarian cancer, permanent, highly effective
Female sterilization disadvantages
No increase in menstrual bleeding or pain, regret, not readily reversible, doesn’t prevent HIV/STIs, higher risk of ectopic pregnancy if failure occurs
