screen for STIs

5 days post UPSI

When should the IUS be inserted?
day 1-5 of cycle
How long should condoms be used for if the IUS isn’t inserted on days 1-5 of cycle?
7 days
How long does the depo injection last? How often is it given?
lasts 14 weeks
given 12 weekly
When shouldn’t you give the depo injection?
> 50 years - osteoporosis risk
30+, haven’t completed family

When, ideally, should the implant be inserted?

What happens if you miss a pill - progesterone only?
take asap
only protected for 3 hours after you usually take the pill
use condoms for 48 hours
What happens if the POP isn’t started on days 1-5 of cycle?
use condoms for 2 days
What are some contraindications for the POP?
breast cancer liver disease trophoblastic disease e.g. previous molar pregnancies SLE coeliac/malabsoprtion
When should you stop the POP?
if they develop new migraine with aura
What cancers is the COCP protective against?
ovarian
endometrial
colorectal
What cancers does the COCP increase risk of?
breast

What are the contraindications for the COCP?
>35 years and 15 cigs a day VTE history of CVD migraine with aura uncontrolled hypertension breastfeeding and <6weeks post partum
What do you do if taking the COCP and are going to get surgery?
stop taking 4 weeks before surgery
can start again 2 weeks post surgery
What are some side effects of the COCP?
headache N and V high blood pressure weight gain bloating fibroids decreased sex drive tender breasts
