Consonants by distinctive features Flashcards
What is a sonorant?
sounds that allow the airstream to pass unimpeded and without constriction through the oral or nasal cavity
What groupings are sonorants?
glides, liquids, nasals
/m/, /n/, /ŋ/, /w/, /j/, /l/, /r/
What is an obstruent?
sounds that are produced with considerable constriction
What groupings are obstruents?

What groupings are interrupted?
stops, affricates
/p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/, /tʃ/, /dʒ/
