Conduction Velocity DLA Flashcards
1
Q
What is nerve conduction velocity?
A
- Nerve conduction velocity refers to the speed of propagation of an electrical impulse through a nerve.
- It is assessed by measuring the time it takes for an impulse to travel from one location to another.
• Calculated by dividing the distance traveled by the nerve conduction time
• It helps in the determination of the nature of nerve
injury.
Conduction velocity= D/(T2-T1)

Q
How to calculate conduction velocoty?
A
• To calculate a true motor conduction velocity, two stimulation sites are used (proximal and distal)
• The proximal and distal latency are measured. Considering the difference between these two measurements eliminates the following
– the NMJ transmission time
– the muscle depolarization time.
