what is a natural hazard>?
a perceived event that threatens both life and property
when does natural hazard become disaster?
natural disaster is the negative effect of a hazard so harm to people

why do people put themselves at risk of hazards?

what does fatalism mean?
view that people can influence a hazard, no attempts made to mitigate

normally the poor, eg people pushed out of urban areas in brazil and live in shanty towns

what does perception determine?
the course of action take in the response to the hazard
what are the types of perception to a hazard?
fatalism

fear
what is a fear perception?
a perception in which they feel they can mo longer live in the presence of a hazard
