What is a complex sentence
- have exactly the same grammatical/ functional elements (subject, object etc)as simple sentences
-however one or more of these functions is realised as a clause rather than a phrase
-we told him a lie (two objects)
Co ordination
Joining of two or more sentences (or phrases) without any one element being dependant from the other = compound sentences
Sub co ordination
Where a clause is a constituent part of a larger clause= complex sentences
Phrasal co ordination
-joining of two or more phrases (noun phrases), one after the other but without one element being dependant on the other
-Phrasal co ordination doesn’t result in a multi cause utterance
Mary works in a bank and john is a driver
