Communication and Negogiation Flashcards
• Within your example project, you mention you continually communicated with your client regarding an EoT. How did you establish your clients position and what was your style of communication?
Once I received the EOT I let my client know I had received. I then went through the EOT, contacting the contractor on occasions to check certain points. I then produced a recommendation report on the EOT and sent this to my client for review. I put a meeting in with my client to go through the recco report to discuss my report and get my clients thoughts on my recommendation. My client was happy with my report so I then sent a response back to the contractor. My communication style is assertive
• Can you talk me through a time you have had to negotiate on one of your projects and what was your level of authority.
During my Cattle market project I visited site to undertake the valuation, Once I got there I did not feel that the pile caps were 80% complete and more like 60%. I sat down the QS and site manager to discuss this and explained that it was clear the pile caps were 60% and following some discussion it was agreed that i would be submitting the valuation at 60%.
What do you need before going into a negotiation?
to what level am i authorised to negotiate, me and my clients red lines, facts and information, what i want the outcome to be, where i am willing to compromise
What is your negotiation style?
Depends on the situation. If there is a strong case for my client then i would aim to get the best deal but I always aim to be collaborative and try to find a resolution
