What is a littoral zone
Littoral zone is a dynamic zone that changes rapidly.
stretches into the sea and onto the shore.
Constantly changing due to short term and long term factors. (Waves, tides, climate change).
Stages
1. Cliff
2. Foreshore
3. Nearshore
4. Offshore
Back shore and foreshore is where most human activity occurs.
How can we classify coasts
Geology - creating rocky, sandy, estuarine
Level of energy - creating high or low energy coasts
Balance between erosion and deposition
Changes in sea level

Rate of erosion exceeds the rates of deposition
