What is the care plan for performing hand and nail care to a resident?
Provide hand and nail care to one hand
What are the supplies that you need?
I. Barrier for table II. Bath basin III. 2 washcloths IV. Towel V. Soap VI. Lotion VII. Orangewood stick VIII. Emery board IX. Gloves
What temperature water do you put in the basin?
Warm water
T/F You must ask the patient to check the water temperature and make sure they like it

What do you do with the 2 washcloths?
Submerge it into the basin
What do you do with one of the washcloths?
Use it to get the patient’s hand wet
What do you do with the second washcloth?
Apply soap to the wash cloth and apply to all surfaces of the hand (both sides)
How do you rinse the hand?
Rinse by placing hand back in basin
What is the orange stick used for?
Use orange stick to clean under each nail
T/F While using the orangestick you must make sure the patient isn’t feeling any pain

What do you do while using the orangestick between each finger?
Wipe the stick on a towel in between each finger
