II. Non-skid footwear
What is the 1st step for ambulating a resident?
Introduce yourself, identify patient and ask them if they would like to go for a walk
Are you required to inform the patient what the gait belt is used for?
Yes inform them the gait belt will help allow you to raise them to a standing position and provide stability while they walk
What must you do after placing gait belt around patient?
Ask patient to bring their feet together and make sure their feet are flat on the ground
How should the patient place their hands while you’re using the gait belt?
Ask the patient to place their hands on your shoulders
What must you do once the patient is up?
Ask patient if they feel okay and inform patient to lead and that you will walk behind
What must you do once the patient finished walking?
Ask the patient if they are feeling okay and help them sit down the same way they stood up
