What is the care plan for emptying urinary drainage bag?
Empty the resident’s urinary drainage bag into a graduate container and measure and record urinary output on intake/output form
When recording the urinary intake/output form what measurements do you record it in?
Milliliters or cc’s
What supplies are needed?
I. Barrier
II. Triangular graduated container
III. Gloves
IV. Documentation sheet
Where should you place the barrier?
Place a barrier on the floor under the drainage bag
What should you do while looking at the catheter?
Inspect the catheter tubing to make sure nothing is wrong with it such as not coiled, not laid on and not on the floor
How do you empty the contents?
Remove the catheter port from the protective sleeve sliding it to the side to remove port and pour contents into the graduated container
How do you secure the catheter port once emptying contents?
Slide port back to close it and insert it back into its protective sleeve
T/F Make sure the urinary bag is hanging on a part of the bed that can be moved
False; make sure it is on a part of a non-movable part and that it is not touching the floor
How should you transfer the graduated container?
Use the chucks to hold it over the graduated container and cover it while you transfer it to the patient’s bathroom
How do you read the results in the graduated container?
Set it on a flat surface and read the results at eye level
