What is the care plan of assisting a resident with a bedpan?
The resident has requested a bedpan and the resident is not wearing undergarments and is able to wipe self
What are the supplies needed?
I. Underpad II. Bath blanket III. Bedpan IV. Toilet paper V. Handwipe VI. 2 pairs of gloves
What is the first thing you place over the patient?
A privacy blanket
What do you place underneath the patient?
Place a chucks underneath the patient
How do you prepare the chuck’s to be placed under the patient?
Hold the chucks up length wise and roll it up
How do you put the chucks under the patient?
Ask the patient to lift their hips as high as they can while you unroll the chucks
How do you put the bedpan under the patient?
Ask the patient to lift their hips as you put the bedpan underneath them
Should you adjust the head of the bed for the patient?
Yes, adjust the patient’s bed upright
What must you do once the bedpan is in place for the patient?
Give the patient toilet paper and call light and let them know to call you when they have finished
What must you do in order to remove the chucks?
Ask patient to lift up and as they lift pull out the chucks with the bedpan lying flat
How do you clean the bedpan?
Empty contents of bedpan into toilet and rinse bedpan and empty that into the toilet as well
