Clotting Disorders Flashcards
Clotting disorders- description
Acquired- pregnancy, dehydration, smoking. BC
Clotting disorders- treatment
Acute- heparin/LMWH, thrombectomy or thombolysis
Prevent- anticoagulation, aspirin
Avoid OPCs
Minimize risk- stop smoking, manage comorbidities
Clotting disorders- risks
All disorders- venous thromboembolism
- DVT, PE< CVA, MI
- miscarriage
Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome- description
Autoimmune- produce abnormal proteins- antiphospholipid autoantibodies —> creates turbulent and stagnate blood flow —> thrombus form
Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome- cause
W
30-40
Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome- s/s
DVTs
Ischemic stroke (<50yo)
Miscarriage
Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome- labs & imaging
aPL
anticardiolipin test - sensitive
Lupus anticoagulant - specific
AntiB2 - glycoprotein 1 autoantibodies
A pos test w/ absence of clot - not a dx -> acknowledge pt risk
Post on 2 different tests
Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome- treatment
Had thrombotic event - anticoagl
- acute - heparin, thrombectomy, thonbolysis
- preventative - anticog
- Avoid OPCs
- Min risk - smoking, comorbities
Have NOT had thrombotic event
- aspirin
- Heparin - pregnant
- Avoid OPC
- min risk
Factor V Leiden- description
Inherited blood clotting disorder- mutation of factor V protein
- protein C (anticoag protein), inhibits clotting activity- not able to bind —> hypercoaguable state
Most common inherited !
Factor V Leiden- labs & imaging
Activated protein C resistance blood test
PCR- factor V Leiden
Factor V Leiden- treatment
Acute- heparin, thombect, thrombolysis
Prevent- coumadin, plavix
Avoid OPCs
Minimize risk- smoking, comor
Protein C deficiency- description
Genetic disorder- thrombotic events
Protein C- anticoag property- inhibit coag of factor V and factor VIII
Protein C deficiency- s/s
Thrombotic event
Protein C deficiency- labs & imaging
Protein C assay test
Protein C deficiency- treatment
Acute
Prevent- anticoag
