CJ1 Loft Oral Flashcards

1
Q

How do you set the parking brake on a “cold” airplane? … What creates pressure for power brakes?

A
  1. Battery ON → Powers electric hydraulic pump.
  2. Electric Auxilary hydraulic pump runs, pressurizes brake accumulator hydraulically.
  3. Depressing toe brakes routes pressure from accumulator to brake calipers.
  4. Pull parking brake handle locks that accumulated pressure, keeping brakes engaged.

Q

What does each position of the BATT switch do?

A

Battery Switch: 3 position (Battery / Off / Emergency)
Battery: Battery relay closed/Emergency relay closed to crossfeed bus
Emergency: Battery relay open/Emergency relay closed to hot battery bus
Off: Battery relay open/Emergency relay closed to crossfeed bus

Q

What does each position of the GEN switch do?

A

Generator Switches:
3 position GEN/OFF/RESET
GEN: Normal position for starting and operations. Allows Power Relay and Field Relay to be automatically
positioned for regulation, protection, starting, and bus protection
OFF: Trips Power Relay without tripping the Field Relay (generator remains excited, but is disconnected from its bus)
RESET: Resets a tripped Field Relay

Q

Regarding the GENERATOR check following engine start: what does each step of this check tell you?

A

Refer to Checklist

Each step verifies critical electrical system components:

Generator isolation
Paralleling & load sharing
Battery charging & condition

These checks confirm redundancy and reliability of your electrical system before flight.

Q

BATT O’TEMP annunciator: after completing the MEMORY ITEMS, volts and amps decrease… How does EMER solve the problem? Why select OFF next? Why not stay in EMER? Why not select OFF instead of EMER initially?

A

Selecting EMER first ensures you remove immediate battery charging loads, reducing heat safely while preserving power to critical systems.
Selecting OFF second fully isolates battery after confirming stability, only done after ensuring you no longer need battery power to vital equipment.
