North: Maine asking union to be a free state
South: Missouri joined union as slave state

South: BAen on agriculture, cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, indigo

no, b/c DE wanted to stay in the union to be protected by the union when the civil war came about, & be on the winning side since the union could produce resources for the war like arms, and the north had railroads.

North: CA free state, slave trade in DC would be abolished(but slavery is not abolished) to please abolitionist
South: New Mexico and Utah would be come open slave territories, strong fugitive slave law to please slaveholders
