Circuit Switching networks 1.3 Flashcards
Packet switching
-when file is sent it is broken up into data packets
-each given a header
What does the header contain on data packets
-destination of IP address.
location,
sequence number,
number of packets,
error checking data
Data packets
-each packet is the same size
-may take different routes through the internet
-marked w a number to be put back together by receive
Reassembling the data
-the recipient computer re-orders the packets into the correct order
-each packet is checked for errors
What happens to corrupted packets
-they are requested to be resent
Moving packets on a net
-routers are any node that can route packets from one place to anothers
nodes
points on a network
MAC addressing
-assigned to each NIC by manufacturer
Network Interface card
-built onto every networked device
-built onto motherboard
What happens when you request a web page
-each router along the way uses the MAC address of the next router to send data packets on the next step of its journey
