Chronic Ischemia And Limb Loss Flashcards
What is limb ischemia
Severe blockage of arteries
Commonest cause of lower limb ischemia?
Atherosclerosis
Most common example of vasoocclusive diseases?
Buerger’s disease
Commonest Vasospastic disease?
Raynaud’s disease
When is surgery considered for aortic aneurysms?
Bigger than 5.5cm and expanding at a rate bigger than 1cm a year
A big part of the history, is intermittent claudication, what is that?
Crampy pain forcing the patient to take a break when walking then continuing
There are two classification systems what are they?
Fontaine and Rutherford
Manifestation of Buerger’s disease?
Middle aged smoker males, affects popliteal and tibial arteries
Anterio-venous fistula manifestations
Purplish, bulging veins
Complications of an AVF?
HF, blood clots, leg pain
When do we do a Duplex Ultrasound?
When suspecting AVF, hematoma, aneurysm, or absent flow
When do we do CT Angiography?
When suspecting atherosclerosis and beurger’s and such
Indication of surgery??
Severe ischemia or severe claudication
What is the endovascular treatment?
PTA, or a stent. (Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty)
What is the open surgery?
Thromboendarterectomy
Bypass surgeries?
Aortobifemoral or Femoropopliteal bypass, depending on location
Arterial aneurysms are most commonly due to?
Atherosclerosis
A rupture of a certain artery is a common cause for sudden death, what is the artery in question?
Abdominal aortic artery
Manifestation of Raynaud’s?
Seen in adult females preceeded by cold exposure of small arteries of hands and feet.
A woman experiences Raynaud’s phenomena as the characteristic sign, what is it
Pallor, cyanosis, redness, itching, all simultaneously
Describe the Ulcer edge in BCC
Raised and rolled.
Describe the ulcer edge in SCC
raised and everted
What is the margin of the ulcer like in a venous ulcer?
White-ish due to fibrosis obv
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is what?
When AVFs present at birth
