Cerebrovascular Diseases Flashcards
What is Erb Duchenne’s paralysis?
Paralysis of an arm
What is Klumpke’s paralysis
Paralysis of the small muscles of the hand
Clinical picture of median nerve injury?
Ape hand and pointer index finger deformity
Clinical Picture of Ulnar nerve injury?
Paralysis of both thumbs supplied by the ulnar nerve. A partial claw hand appearance as a result
Clinical picture of radial nerve injury in the spiral groove?
Wrist and finger drop
Clinical picture of radial injury in the forearm?
Finger drop only
Sciatic nerve injuries, in the lower limb ofc, might be caused by what?
Fault IM injections or hip dislocation
What’s the resultant deformity of a sciatic nerve injury?
Flail Foot
What causes damage to the common peroneal nerve?
Damage by trauma to the Fibular neck
What is the clinical picture of a common peroneal nerve injury?
Foot drop, and a sensory loss over the dorsum of the foot
Tibial nerve injury signs?
Weakness of the plantar flexors and a weak ankle jerk
Femoral nerve injury cause?
Inguinal region wounds
Signs of a femoral nerve injury?
Weakness of quads and iliopsoas, plus the knee jerk is lost
Investigations for peripheral nerve injuries??
Nerve conduction, EMG, CT, MRI, XR
What’s the indication for surgery
Neurotmesis
Who do we do primary sutures on?
Clean cut wounds
Who do we do secondary sutures on?
Crushed and contaminated wounds, their nerve repair is delayed for 3-6 weeks
What’s advantages to a secondary suture?
Control infection, proper injury eval and a proper neurosurgeon
What is Thoracic outlet syndrome?
Scalene muscles compress the neurovascular bundle
Thoracic outlet syndrome signs?
Arm pain and parasthesia, Supraclavicular pain and Adson’s sign
What is Adson’s sign?
Rotation of shoulder produces symptoms
Thoracic outlet syndrome
Neck X-Ray, and EMG
Carpal Tunnel syndrome arises in whom?
Pregnancy or with strenuous work involving the hands
Clinical features of carpal tunnel?
Phalen’s sign and Tinel’s test positive, weak thenar muscles
