What is choline?
A
Not technically a B vitamin, as it can be synthesised by the liver
Does not function as a coenzyme, but is present in large amount in the body

What is the function of choline?
A
- as a part of phospholipids, lipoproteins and cell membranes
- is a precursor to acetylcholine (brain and muscle function as a neurotransmitter)
- can be a methyl donor in conversion of homocysteine to dimethylglycine

What occurs in choline toxicity?
A
- fishy odour
- decreased blood pressure
- vomiting

What occurs in choline deficiency?
A
- fatty liver
- kidney and liver damage

- egg
