What does: Lithium hydroxide (LiOH) + sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) → (equal)?
Lithium hydroxide (LiOH) + sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) → Lithium sulfate (Li₂SO₄) + water (H₂O)
How do you work out somethings formula?
You plus or minus the ions until they are neutral in charge.
How do you work out the formula of Aluminium hydroxide Al(OH)₃
Al³⁺ OH¯
OH¯ → Al(OH)₃
OH¯
When do you need brackets for a formula?
You need brackets when an ion’s formula has more than 1 element in it and for that formula there needs to be more than 1 of that ion. Such as Al(OH)₃
What are the 3 steps to a chemical equation:
- work out what the acid and base make then add water.
- Work out the chemical formulas for each reactant and product.
- Balance the equation. Draw bubbles (molecules) of the ions, balance each side. If you have added an extra set of an ion write the number of sets of that ion that you now have in front of its chemical formula.
What happens in a chemical reaction?
In a chemical reaction atoms re-arrange themselves and form new chemicals. The number of atoms before and after is the same.
What is: The word formula for a chemical equation that involves CARBONATE or BICARBONATE

What are the products of: Nitric acid+Calcium carbonate →
Nitric acid (2HNO₃) + Calcium carbonate (CaCO₃)→ Calcium nitrate (Ca(NO₃)₂) + water (H₂O) + Carbon dioxide (CO₂) (This equation needed to be balanced hence the 2 in front of HNO₃.
