What is a policy?
a set of broad guidelines to be followed by all employees when dealing with areas of decision making
What is a procedure?
a series of actions enabling a policy to be put into practice.
What is an autocratic management style?
one where the manager tells staff what decision have been made
What is a persuasive management style?
One were the manager attempts to sell decisions made
What is a consultative management style?
One where the manager consults employees before making decisions
What is a participative management style?
one where the manager unites with staff to make decisions together
What is a laissez-faire management style?
One where the employees assume total responsibility for, and control of, workplace operations
What is communication?
involves the ability to transfer information from a sender to a receiver, and to listen to feedback. (can be verbal & non verbal)
What is delegation?
delegation is the transfer of authority and responsibility from a manager to an employee to carry out specific activities
what is negotiation?
the ability to resolve a dispute or to produce an agreement
what is team building?
Building trust and encouraging interaction of individuals within teams and groups
what is problem solving?
identifying a problem and then applying a course of action to correct that problem
what is time management?
involves the ability to prioritise tasks, set deadlines, delegate and review the process
what is stress management?
involves the ability to manage the levels of stress that develop in employees
what is emotional intelligence?`
