Religious Setting
Heavy use of formal/frozen text, must take into consideration own beliefs and not let it influence the interpretation
Educational Settings
K-12 and college, recommended that the interpreter has a wide range of knowledge and has graduated from a BA program
Working with a Deaf Interpreter
Special training and practice are required
Interpreting in Medical Settings
Medicals staff often doesn’t understand interpreters role, interpreter must be familiar with medical terms and procedures
Legal Settings
Most states require interprets to be certified, higher fees due to level of expertise
Metal Health
Should be certified, important that the interpreter works closely w/ therapist to ensure minimal impact
Interpreting for Conferences
Platform interpreting, must prepare beforehand
Theatrical or Performing arts
Great value to have musical training, might need to be involved in the rehearsal process
Employment -related settings
Must be sensitive to cultural adjustments needed, must know specialized terminology
Personal Setting
Must set boundaries, must be flexible, clear set of roles and responsibilities
