What are DATING SCRIPTS?

What is a PROACTIVE DATING SCRIPT?
more common for boy than girls, that includes initiating the relationship, deciding where they will go, controlling the public domain, and initiating sexual contact
What is a REACTIVE DATING SCRIPT?
more common for girls than boys, that focuses on the private domain (dress and grooming), responding to the partner’s public gestures, responding to their sexual initiatives
What is CONSENSUAL VALIDATION?
the principle that people like to find in others an agreement or consensus with their own characteristics and view of life
What is COHABITATION?
living with a romantic partner outside of marriage
What is ARRANGED MARRIAGE?
a marriage in which the partners are determined by either parents or family elders
What are the components of SEXUAL IDENTITY?
sexual self-esteem > perception of one’s own worth as a sexual being
sexual self-efficacy > people’s confidence in their mastery and control of sexual activities

a wide range of threatening or aggressive behaviours related to sexuality, from relatively mild harassment like name-calling and jokes, to severe harassment involving unwanted touching or sexual contact
What is SEXUAL ASSAULT?
a legal term that generally encompasses unwanted sexual contact due to verbal pressure, alcohol or drugs, or physical force
What is AFFIRMATIVE CONSENT?
unequivocal, verbal agreement to sexual activity
What is COMPREHENSIVE SEXUAL EDUCATION?
beginning at an early age, detailed information on sexual development and behaviour is provided, with easy access to contraception for adolescents who choose to become active
What are ABSTINENCE-PLUS PROGRAMS?
sex education programs that encourage adolescents to delay intercourse while also providing contraceptive information for adolescents who chose to do so

the attraction individuals feel for members of the same or opposite sex
