Chapter 9 - Crime Scene Inv. - Unit 1- Lesson 4 Flashcards
Photographing the scene
is the first event that should take place when documenting a crime scene. Photographing allows people “to see” how the crime scene looked on the day you responded
Kind of photos to take:
take overall, midrange, and then close-up photographs
Visible evidence that can be present on the victim or witness to photograph:
bruises, lacerations, broken bones, gunshot wounds, blood, and trace or transfer evidence. A suspect does not have the right to refuse photographing injuries, such as scratches from the victim or blood evidence
Purpose of sketching the crime scene
A crime scene sketch supplements your field notes and photographs and helps with report writing. Sketches aid in the reconstruction,
explanation, and permanent recording of an incident. They can show positions of objects in relation to one another
that are not easily visible in photographs
Document photos and sketches with…
- case number
- location
- date and time
- officer’s name
