Chapter 8 objectives Flashcards
Describe synarthrosis
No movement between articulating bones
describe amphiarthrosis
Small amount of movement between articulating bones
describe diarthrosis
Freely, movable, allowing wide variety of specific movements
describe fibrous joints
Fasten together without joint space between articulating bones
what kind of movement do fibrous joints allow?
Synarthrosis or amphiarthrosis
describe cartilaginous joints
Fasten together with cartilage without joint space
what kind of movement do cartilaginous joints allow
Synarthrosis or amphiarthoses
describes synovial joints
Joint space is fluid filled cavity between articulating bones
what are the three subclasses of fiber joints?
Suture, gomphosis, and syndesmosis
describe a suture
And immovable joint between edges of bones
describe gomphosis
immovable joint between each tooth and bone socket and jaw
describe syndesmosis
Joint between tibia, fibula, Ona and radius, and allows for small amount of movement
what are the two sub classes of cartilaginous joint?
Synchondrosis and symphyses
Where can you find synchondrosis
in the ribs and in the epiphyseal plate of long bones
where can you find symphyses
in the intervertebral joints and pubic symphyses
what are some features of a synovial joint?
A layer of hyaline cartilage, synovial fluid, ligaments, tendons, bursa, and tendon sheaths
what are the possible joint configurations and synovial joints
nonaxial joints, Uniaxial joints, biaxial joints and multiaxial (triaxiel) joints
describe a non-axial joint
Allow motion in one or more planes without moving around axis
describe a uniaxial joint
Allows motion around only one axis
describe a biaxial joint
allows motion around two axis
describe a multiaxial (triaxiel) joint
Allows motion around three axis
describe a gliding movement
When two bones slide on one another surfaces
describe an angular movement
Increases or decreases angle between articulating bones
describe flexion
Bringing your hand towards your body, as if you were flexing
describe extension
Straightening out your arm at the elbow
Describe hyper extension
The opposite of flexion
describe abduction
Moving a body part away from midline of body
describe adduction
Motion of body part toward midline of body, opposite of abduction
describe circumduction
Drawing a circle with your finger
Describe rotation
when you twist your arm and your humorous twists in its socket
describe opposition and reposition
opposition is when you move your thumb across to your pinky, and reposition is moving it back to anatomical position
describe depression and elevation
Depression is when you open your mouth, moving your jaw down, and elevation is closing your mouth
describe protraction and retraction
Protraction is making yourself have an underbite and retraction is making yourself have an overbite
describe inversion and eversion
inversion is rotating the left side of your foot up and eversion is rotating the right side of your foot up
describe dorsiflexion, and plantarflexion
dorsiflexion is pointing your toes up to the sky and plantarflexion is pointing your foot to the ground
Describe supination in pronation
supination is holding a cup of soup in your hand, and pronation is pouring it out
what is a plane joint
Two bones glide across each other
What is a hinge joint?
when the arched surface of one bone interacts with a caved in surface of another bone 0 )
describe a pivot joint
Looks like if you put a doughnut on a pole
describe a saddle joint
when both ends are caved in
Describe a condylar joint
like a ball and socket joint but shallower
