What is conformity?
a change in one`s behavior due to the real or imagined influence of other people.
What is the informational social influence?
the need to know what`s right
What is sheriff`s study about?
that based on the situation, social influence you can get conformity
Why do we conform?
situation is obvious, urgent, when other people are experts
What is the normative social influence?
the need to be accepted
What is Asch`s study about?
conforms out of desire to be liked or accepted , to avoid disapproval or other social sanctions.
What are the different types of conformity between the two studies?
Sherifs; private: a person changes both behavior, belief
Asch`s: Public; a superficial change in behavior
Why does consistency work?
draws attention, person is unlikely to give up, the person must have a good point going against the majority.
What are idiosyncrasy credits?
credits earned by following group norms
What is the dual-process approach?
majorities, minorities exert influence in different ways for different reasons
What does compliance mean?
changes in behavior due to direct request; weaker form of obedience.
What is the norm of reciprocity?
the norm that we must treat others as they treat us
What is obedience?
a change in one`s behavior produced by the commands of authority
