What is a self-schema?
beliefs about yourself that guide the processing of self-relevant information.
What is the self-reference effect?
when information is relevant to our self-concept`s we process it quickly, remember it well.
What is the independent self?
distinct, autonomous, self-contained, and unique
What is the self-perception theory?
when cue`s are difficult to interpret we gain self-insight by observing our own behavior
What is the over justification effect?
intrinsic motivation for activities when associated with reward.
What are the two factors of the theory of emotion?
psychological arousal, a persons construal of arousal: look to environment to explain
What is the misattribution of arousal?
the process whereby people make mistaken inferences about what is causing them to feel the way they do.
What is the facial feedback hypothesis?
changes in facial expressions can lead to corresponding changes in emotion; prediction of our feelings.
What is affective forecasting?
predicting how you would feel in response to future events.
What is bottom-up method in self-esteem?
self-esteem is contingent(dependent) upon external circumstance. ex; good on exam self-esteem goes up
What is the top down method?
self-esteem drive`s external circumstances
How does one explain the self-serving bias?
better able to recognize our own behaviors, our need for self-esteem motivates us to view ourselves positively.
What is self-presentation?
process by which we try to shape what others think of us
What is strategic self-presentation?
our efforts to shape other`s impressions
What is self-verification?
getting others to see us as we see ourselves`s
