briefly explain the major cause of the Irish rebellion
A
English and Scottish Protestants, who had been settling in Ireland since the 16th century, had confiscated land from Irish Catholic landowners and had imposed their own religious beliefs and practices on Irish society.

- John Hampden, a member of the gentry refused to pay ship money and was taken to court by Charles
- Charles won the court case but very narrowly with 7 judges to 5
