- Indecisiveness; like after winning the first battle in edge hill, he didn’t go and follow on into London
- He appointed local man as generals as he though they’d be able to draw support from their local areas, but these men lacked experience
- Areas under Royal control were just poorer
- Division; Henrietta wanted to continue the war, white Edward Hyde advised Charles to stop
- Charles was a poor leader and because he appointed himself the commander in chief, he had full responsibility for losses
