  • Didn’t have control over London, major hub for resources, supplies, propaganda, industry
  • Indecisiveness; like after winning the first battle in edge hill, he didn’t go and follow on into London
  • He appointed local man as generals as he though they’d be able to draw support from their local areas, but these men lacked experience
  • Areas under Royal control were just poorer
  • Division; Henrietta wanted to continue the war, white Edward Hyde advised Charles to stop
  • Charles was a poor leader and because he appointed himself the commander in chief, he had full responsibility for losses
  • Charles agreement with Catholic Irish mean that he lost some support form English protestants
