Explain the case of the 7 bishops in 1688
- James II reissues the Declaration of Indulgence, which aimed to establish freedom of religion, and announces that in his next parliament it’ll be enacted by law.
- He then ordered it to be announced from all Church of England Pulpits.
- This led to direct petition by Archbishop Bancroft and his 6 bishops, complaining that it was illegal
- James reacted by putting all 7 of them on trial, but all 7 were acquitted, and found not guilty
Explain what motivated William to take over England
Due to fears of Louis XIV expanding into the Dutch Republic, led to William believing he needed help from England
- but the birth of James II’s new child meant it was unlikely for England to help the Dutch as his wife Mary will not be next in line for the throne.

In 89’, it established the constitutional relationship between the monarch and Parliament, and it confirmed the rights and liberties of the people of England. included:
- No Catholic could inherit the throne
- No monarch could marry a Catholic
- No monarch could have a standing army
- Suspending the powers of the monarch were declared unconstitutional
- Parliament had to consent to all taxation

William and Mary accepted the Scottish throne and agreed to:
- Abolishing of bishops
- Removing royal control over the Church in Scotland
- Establishing a Presbyterian Church
What happened in Ireland after the Glourious Revolution
Ireland posed a huge threat as it was majority catholic
- James II landed in Ireland with 3000 troops but was defeated by William III in the Battle of the Boyne on July 1st.
