A

Government
- The political nation felt the MGs posed a threat to the political nations control over the localities. As the lesser gentries were gaining more control.
- The MGs started removing conservatives from local governments

Finance
- Concern over high taxation

Religion
- The NMA were religious radicals, this led to less persecution of radicals.
- Radicals threatened hierarchy as they questioned norms

What was the Humble Petition and Advice, what was the reaction and what year did it occur

  • Document presented to Oliver Cromwell in 1657, proposing a new form of government with Cromwell as king but with limited powers
  • Cromwell rejected it as the army seriously opposed it and would just remove him, and army opposition would mean god opposes him being king
  • He accepted a revised version of the petition where he was not monarch
