Q

What is a solubility curve ?

A

A solubility curve is a graph of solubility in g/100g water (y axis) against temperature in *C (x axis)

Q

How does emptying hot water in rivers affect the aquatic life ?

A

this causes the temperature of the river water to increase, and as a result the solubility of oxygen gas decreases. Fish then may not have enough oxygen to survive. This is known as thermal pollution.

Q

Why when a concentrated solution is of salt is cooled, will some of the solute be deposited ?

A

because the solubility of the solid decreases as the temperature decreases and some of the solid will crystallise out and be deposited
