World War II changed radio into more of a media outlet of entertainment. It also gave people their need for instant news. Television also helped change radio and recorded music by a different way to promote these radio stations and their music. (Ex. MTV)
What does it mean to say that radio is local, fragmented, specialized, personal, and mobile?
Radios attract local audiences, are widely distributed, highly specific/specialized towards a particular audience’s interest, are mostly listened to alone, and we are now able to listen to it anywhere and at any time.
What are catalog and deep catalog albums?
Catalogs are music more than 18 months old, and deep catalog albums are music more than 3 years old.
How have cable and satellite affected the radio and recording industries? Computers and digitization?
Cable and satellite have affected radio in terms of now they have some of their stuff through televisions. Many Televisions have music apps where you can listen to radio stations and music in general. Computers and digitization have affected radio in a bit more negative ways. Through computers and digitization you have downloads and streaming. Many people rather streaming to radio stations.
