Louis the Child gathered an army, but the Magyars attacked at dawn, breaking resistance and ending his rule. Conrad became king.
Why did Henry negotiate oaths with the Eastern Francia’s dukes?
- To establish an equal relationship.

- Recognized the dukes as “senior partners” in governance.
