A

allows removal of unwanted wastes, water, and ions, while retaining desirable substances and returning them to the blood.

Where are the kidneys located?

A

they’re located juts above the waistline,in the back of the abdominal cavity and are somewhat protected by the 11th and 12th pairs of ribs. The left kidney is slightly higher than the right due to the large amount of room the liver takes up. Situated behind the peritoneal sack and are often described as retroperitoneal organs.

A

the concavity on the medial side of the kidney is where the hilum is positioned. through the hilum all the structures, such as blood vessels, nerves, and the ureters enter and leave the kidney.

What is the Perirenal fat pad?

A

the outer surface of the kidney covered in fibrous capsule and a layer of adipose tissue. these structures help protect the kidney and to hold it firmly in place
