- Protect - Keeps bad out and organs in
- Maintain body temperature - (homeostasis)
- Eliminate waste (Ex: Sweat)
- Sensory - Largest sensory organ

- The outer/external layer
- made up of Epithelial tissues on top of connective tissues
- Contains melanin (Produced by melanocytes
- Contains hair and nails

Dermis (Living Layer)
A
- Internal layer, mostly connective tissue
- contains small blood vessels, nerves, and lymph vessels

Types of Glands
A
- Sebaceous - secretes oil called Sebum, keeps skin and hair soft and pliable
- Sudoriferous - sweat glands secrete Sudor, has pores
- Ceruminous - secretes earwax, protects ear canal, traps bacteria/dust
