What are the factors that influence group conformity?
norms of solidarity, structures of authority, bureaucracies
What are social networks?
set of individuals who are linked by the exchange of material/emotional resources

What are groups?
social groups are made up of one or more networks of people who identify with one another.
What are primary groups?
exist when members agree on norms, statuses but do not define them in writing
What are secondary groups?
larger, more impersonal then primary groups.
What are the 5 factors of how group conformity is impacted?
Conformity increases as group size increases, conformity increases as group cohesiveness increases, social status affect the likelihood of conformity, culture matters, and the appearance of unity and agreement effects the likelihood of conformity
What is groupthink?
Pressure to conform despite personal misgivings
What are the characteristics of the group think?
the illusion of invulnerability, the illusion of unanimity, the pressure to conform, closed-mindedness, isolation from the group and pressure to self censor.
What is Bystander apathy?
when people observe someone in an emergency but do not offer any help.
What are reference groups?
compromised group of people against whom individuals evaluate their own situations and/or conduct
