Aristocrats during medieval times believed they had blue blood due to their blue veins protruding through their skin compared to peasants who worked out in the sunn and did not have this.

A scientist that believed that skull size was the primary determinant of intelligence

Was a scientist who believed that you could rank races based on IQ.
What is Prejudice?
It is an attitude that judges a person on their group’s real or imagined characteristics.
What is Discrimination?
Is the unfair treatment of people because of their group membership
What is Race?
It is a social construct used to distinguish people in terms of one or more physical markers, usually with profound effects on their lives.
In the middle of the 20th century, who in Canada had the most power?
People of British decent
What is symbolic ethnicity?
is a nostalgic allegiance to the culture of the immigrant generation, or that o the old country, that is not usually incorporated in everyday behaviour.
What is Racism?
The belief that a visible characteristic of a group, such as skin colour, indicated group inferiority and justifies discrimination.
What are micro-aggressions?
These are minor forms of racial or ethnic discrimination that occur in the course of daily interaction and are often not noticed by people committing them.
What is white privilege?
The unearned advantages that only white people have.
What is institutional racism?
occurs when organizational policies and practices systematically discriminate against people of some racial group or groups
What is critical race theory?
Suggests that racial and ethnic prejudice and discrimination are embedded in institutional ideologies and practices and not necessarily in the conscious actions of individuals.
What is internal colonialism?
Involves one race or ethnic group subjugating another in the same country. It prevents assimilation by segregating the subordinate group in terms of jobs, housing, & social contracts.
What is cultural assimilation?
Is the process in which a minority group or culture comes to resemble a society’s majority group or assumes the values, behaviours, & beliefs of another group.
