Chapter 5.3 Nonprobability Sampling Methods Flashcards
Convenience Sampling
Most commonly used. Availibility or willingness. to respond. Do not require knowledge of the population and does not use a random process for selection. Sample is generally biased. easier less expensive, more timely technique. This does not mean it is hopelessly flawed. To block flaws, first we ensure that samples are reasonably representative and not strongly biased. Secondly, we try to minimize potential problems with convenience, by describing and clarifying our sample
Quota Sampling
Quota sampling ensures that subgroups are equally representative in convenience sample. Impose a quota. Clarify the limits of selection for different subgroups in order to equalize representativeness. Mimics proportionate stratified. because of clarifying limits like proportions. But it is differing the way that it doesnt select people randomly. It is also called convenience stratified sampling
Convenience sample can work with
cluster or systematic sampling. That case increases representativeness.
