Chapter 5 Flashcards
Name all the anatomical planes and their designated axis
Frontal (Front and back) - > Antero-Posterior axis
Transverse (Up and Down) - > Longitudinal axis
Sagittal (left and right) - > Horizontal plane

Describe Plantar Flexion, Dorsiflexion, Supination, Pronation, Inversion and Eversion
Plantar Flexion - specific to ankle, occurs when point your toe
Dorsiflexion - specific to ankle, bring your toe to your shin
Supination - the rotation of the wrist so that the palm of your hand is facing forward
Pronation - the rotation of the wrist so that the palm of your hand is facing backward
Inversion - specific to ankle, common sprain ankle injury
Eversion - same as eversion, opposite way
What makes up the axial skeleton and how many bone
Composed mainly of the vertebral column, much of the skull, and the ribcage; 80 bone
How many ribs do we have?
7 true
3 false
2 floating
What makes up the Appendicular skeleton and how many bones
ApS includes movable limbs and their supporting structures (girdles); 126 bones
What is a bone landmark
A ridge, bump, groove, depression, or prominence on the surface of the bone that serves as a guide to the location of other body structures
List all of the different types of joints and an example
Ball and Socket Gliding Joints; between the carpals and tarsals Hinge Joints Pivot Joints; metacarpal Saddle Joints; parts of thumb Ellipsoid Joint; metacarpal joint
List 3 joint-related injuries and disease
- Dislocation
- Separation
- Osteoarthritis
What are the three types of joints
Fibrous
Synovial
Cartilaginous
Where is articular carriage located
on the ends of bones that come in contact with one another
Whats a bursae
small fluid sacs found at friction points
Intrinsic Ligaments
thick bands o fibrous connective tissue that helps thicken and reinforce the joint capsule
Extrinsic Ligaments
they separate from the joint capsule and help reinforce the joint
