Chapter 10 Flashcards
What are the three stages of motor learning
Cognitive stage - beginners gain some basic understanding of how to preform a task
Associative stage - intermediate stage, learners begin to refine their skills
Automatic stage - mature stage, a skill becomes automatic
What is motor learning?
Motor learning refers to the process by which a person develops, through a combination of physical and physiological factors, the ability to perform a task
What are the three categories of Fundamental Movement Skills and name a sport for each
1) Stability (or balance)
- includes movement skills such as standing, stopping, bending (Tumpling)
2) Locomotion (or travelling)
- includes skills such as running, jumping, skipping (Volleyball)
3) Manipulation (or object control)
- includes skills such as throwing, catching, striking and dribbling (baseball)
What is skill transferability?
The ability to apply or transfer the skills learned from one sport/activity to a different sport/activity
What are the three main components/phases of movement
1) Preparation phase
- the body prepares to preform a skill
2) Execution phase
- the main action is carried out by applying the correct amount of force at the critical moment
3) Follow-Through Phase
- the FTP is key to accuracy and force production
What are the two types of feedback?
Knowledge of Performance feedback (KP)
Knowledge of Results feedback (KR)
Explain KP feedback
This category of feedback involves observing and commenting on the performance itself
Explain KR feedback
This category of feedback involves observing and commenting on the results/outcomes of an action or a series of actions
