Chapter 11 Flashcards
Explain the laws of inertia
A body or object either remains at a stationary position or continues to move at a constant velocity, unless an external force is exerted upon it
What is the law of acceleration?
F=(m x a)
This formula describes the relationship between the force of an object (f), its mass (m) and it’s acceleration (a)
What is the law of action-reaction
A reaction force arises whenever one body exerts a force on another. The reaction force is equal and opposite in magnitude and direction to the applied force
What is biomechanics
the study of the mechanical laws relating to the movement or structure of living organisms
List and explain the different types of forces
External forces - forces that originate outside the object or body that we wish to study ie. gravity, wind resistance
Internal forces - forces that arise within the system we are interested in studying ie. when a muscle contracts
