Chapter 5: Flashcards
Elbert Hubbard gave this sage advice:
Whenever you go out, draw the chin in, carry the crown of the head high, and fill the lungs all the way. Greet your friends with a smile. Put your soul into every handshake. Don’t fear being misunderstood don’t waste a minute thinking of your enemies. Fix your mind on what you would like to do; and then without veering off direction, you will move straight towards that goal.Keep your mind on the great and splendid things you would like to do, then you will unconsciously seize upon the opportunities. Picture in your mind the able, earnest, useful person you desire to be, and as you do this it will transform you overtime into that individual. Preserve the right mental attitude- courage, frankness, and good cheer. We become like that on which our hearts are fixed.
Principle 2:
Smile!
- Have a genuine smile on your face!
- It will make a good first impression
- It is far more important than the type of clothes you wear
- People who smile tend to manage, teach and sell more effectively
- Smile when you talk on the phone!
- Smile everywhere you go!
- Force yourself to smile. If your alone force yourself to whistle or sing a song!
- Smiling creates happiness in homes, friendships and business.
- It’s contagious!
Chinese proverb:
“A man without a smiling face must not open a shop”
Abe Lincoln quote:
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be
Shakespeare quote
There is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.
Useful tips about happiness and thoughts:
1.It isn’t what you have or who you are or what you are doing or where you are that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.
2.Happiness depends on inner conditions. Control your thoughts!
3.Act as if happiness were already there. And it will come to you!
4.
Meeting people:
You must have a good time meeting people of you expect them to have a good time meeting you!
William James quote:
“Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feeling go together; and by regulating the action, which is under our control, we can indirectly regulate what is not under our control (Emotion)
