Cavity Preparation
the process of removing diseased tooth structure while leaving a healthy tooth structure for the tooth to maintain a restoration.
Final preparation
Dentist will remove any (1) enamel within the preparation (2) diseased dentin (3) or old restorative material
insert resistance and retention notches, grooves, and coves to provide strength in the restoration
Placing dental materials for protected purposes (1) lining agents (2) bases (3) bonding
Cavity Wall
All internal surfaces of the tooth prepared for restoration.
Internal Wall
Cavity Wall / surface that does not extend to the external tooth surface
External Wall
Surface of the tooth preparation that extends to the external tooth surface, name according to the tooth surface (Distal, Mesial, Lingual, or Gingival )
Axial Wall
Internal wall? Surface of the prepared tooth that runs parallel to the long axis of the tooth
Pupal Floor
Internal wall/ surface of a prepared tooth that is perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth .
Enamel Wall
Portion of a prepared external wall that consists of enamel.
