What is the ballet de cour?
It is a type of ballet danced at the French royal court. Members of the court danced with the professional dancers. It included instrumental interludes, pantomimes, scenery, and loose allegories. It was 20-30 minutes long.
How are ballet de cour and tragedie lyrique different? How are they alike?
A tragedie lyrique was a lot longer than a ballet de cour. A ballet de cour included more dances than a tragedie lyrique. The ballet de cour didn’t have a French tragedy.

Armide which was a tradegie lyrique that was written in 1686. It represents his style because it is based off of an Italian poem. He was born in Italy so I’m sure that had some influence.
