Policy
Consists of a formal set of general plans and principles intended to address problems and guide decision making in specific instances

A report of results from detailed studies that assess the potential impacts on the environment that would likely result from development projects undertaken or funded by the federal govt
Environmental protection agency (EPA)
Conducting and evaluating research, monitoring environmental quality, setting and enforcing standards for pollution levels, assisting the states in meeting standards and goals, and educating the public
Customary law
Arises from long standing practices, or customs, held in common by most cultures
Conventional law
Arises from conventions or treatise into which nation enters
United Nations
1954, 50 countries.
European Union
Seeks to promote European unity and it’s economic and social progress and to “assert Europe’s role in the world.”
World trade organizations
Established in 1995. Represents multinational corporations and promotes free trade by reducing obstacles to international commerce and enforcing fairness among nations in trading practices

One of the globe’s largest sources of funding for economic development. Can shape environmental policy through its funding of dams,irrigation infrastructure, and other major development projects.

Anyone who spends time or money trying to change an elected officials mind. To convince

This movement of individuals between the private sector and government agencies
Command-and-control
A great deal of environmental policy has functioned by setting rules or limits and threatening punishment for violating these rules or limits
Subsidy
A government giveaway of cash or publicly owned resources that is intended to encourage a particular activity
Green taxes
Taxes on environmentally harmful activities and products
Maquiladoras
US owned factory on Mexican side of us-Mexico border
Emissions permits
Government issued marketable emissions permits to conduct environmentally harmful acts
Marketable
Able or for to be sold or marketed
Transboundary
Crossing political boundary such as a national border
