Second type of economy. In the system the interactions among buyers and sellers determine which goods and services are produced, how much are produced, and how these are produced and distributed
Centrally planned economies
The government determines In a top-down manner how to allocate resources
Classical economics
Smith believed that when people are free to pursue their own economic self-interest in a competitive marketplace, the marketplace will behave as if guided by an ‘invisible hand’ that ensures their actions will benefit soviet as a whole
Cost-benefit analysis
Neoclassical economists commonly use this method
Ecological economists
Argue that a couple of centuries is not a very long period of time and that history suggests that civilizations do not overcome their environmental limitations
Environmental economists
Tend to agree with ecological economists that economies are unsustainable if population growth is not reduced and resource use is not made more efficient
