Someone’s behavior comes to match and mirror others’ expectations

Set of expectations and assumptions from previous experience

Sorting competing messages or choosing stimuli to pay attention

Those that come from within yourself.

Stimulation from outside

Information we choose to pay attention to and ignore
What is Selective Attention?
Focusing on one stimulus and tuning everything else out

Choosing to remember one stimulus over another one.

Sorting information into logical series/categories
What is proximity?
Organize based on physical relationship to objects
What is continuity?
Keeping things organized and draw lines between them
What is similarity?
Organizing items based on common things between them

Using previous knowledge to fill in gaps.

Differences that make people perceive things differently
What are demographic traits?
Characteristics that make someone who they are and common with others.

Mutual exchange and interdependence
